Established in the 1930s, Black’s is Canada’s premier destination for imaging and digital products and services, specializing in camera, camera phone and printing technologies. Now a subsidiary of TELUS, Black’s Photography has a network of 114 stores across Canada, a large base of loyal customers, and one of the most recognized retail brands in the country.
A Changing World
With rapid advancements in digital photography, Black’s had to adapt its core business. Digital imaging quickly replaced traditional film, and almost every Canadian now has a high-resolution camera on them at all times, thanks to the ubiquity of camera-enabled smart phones.
In parallel, with explosion in digital imaging, eCommerce, social media, and mobile commerce adoption was growing in leaps and bounds, and it was time for Black’s to develop a robust, scaleable and user-friendly online presence.
Choosing the Right eCommerce Platform
Black’s needed a strategic, proven eCommerce platform that provided scalability and flexibility to accommodate its online and mobile strategies. After evaluating several platforms, Black’s chose Oracle ATG Commerce in 2009 as its hub.
